What a ‘souper’ time we had in the Food Technology room!
Creating ‘Stone Age Soup’ has certainly been the highlight of our week in Year 3 as we washed, peeled, cut, chopped and sliced our way through bags of vegetables to make delicious and unique vegetable soup. From ‘ Magic Mammoth’ to ‘Sabre Tusk Delight’, everyone enjoyed sampling these culinary delights which were surprisingly quick and easy to make, and healthy too! We could evaluate our creations to say which soup we liked best and why and by the end of the day, every pot and bowl was licked clean. Pumpkin, lentil, potato, carrot, cabbage or courgette. What was your favourite recipe? Perhaps you could recreate it at home for a family treat. Well done Year 3 students for working so independently, and also to our parent helpers for their helpful hands and guidance.

Breaking news! Year 3 are going to design and make their own Iron Age Shields!
Every class will need 7 new, large, flat packed cardboard boxes, the type that is used by moving companies such as 'Delight' or similar. Are you able to provide these materials for your class or indeed, the Year Group? Please contact your Class Teacher if you can help to provide the boxes for this exciting Design and Technology project. Yours hopefully, The Year 3 Team Here are a few samples of the Shields made last year Yesterday Year 3 had their first Swim Gala which was a great success. The children had fun in the pool and enthusiastically cheered their classmates from the side. Everyone was a winner but year 3 Jade won the class events and Falcon won the House Events. Here are a few pictures from the event:
Yesterday the children watched Snow White . Here are a few reviews written by some of the year 3 children: The story of Snow White is a very well-known tale. Told and retold the world over. Today we were super lucky to have the perfect production team, S4K, to perform a magnificent play based on the story. Our favourite part was when the dwarves were dancing and singing. It made us laugh so loud! The play did not follow the original story exactly but it was still extraordinarily enjoyable!
Asha and Safiyah Today we watched an amazing recreation of Snow White. It was turned from a book into an astonishing show – what a performance! The show was well rehearsed and wowed the audience as soon as the lights went off. It felt like you were entering the woods, castle and the cottage belonging to the dwarves. It filled my heart with laughter and happiness. Such a funny performance would even make a sloth laugh! Mia The story of Snow White is a very well-known tale. The scenery made a very good setting and the magic mirror was funny, clever and a tiny bit weird! The dwarves looked so realistic too. The music and songs were similar to those from trolls and the costumes were fabulous. It really made you feel that you were entering the land of Snow White! Oscar and Ethan The performance was amazing. The songs were lovely and the dancing excellent. My favourite part was when Tiny was always worrying about his apple but I didn’t like it when Snow White ate the poisoned apple. The costumes were great and sound effects magnificent. Ismail The story of Snow White is a very well-known story and the characters are funny. The 4K team performed it well with some good sound effects. There were lots of different settings, one of them was a castle. The characters were funny, the four dwarves were dancing and saying funny lines. The character also had amazing costumes. Also the music was great and they were very creative with the song words. A great show! Amelia Today the children were given a talk on how to be smart in the Sun by the School Nurse. There were questions on what the children knew about the good and bad effects that the sun has. They were told the importance of sun protection and the benefits for wearing sunglasses and hats . There is a class competition on the most children in one class that will wear their hats tomorrow during break times.
As part of our continuous leaning about Healthy Eating, Year 3 were lucky enough to hear how to become like Popeye and unveil our superpowers! Yara Makhoul, a nutritionist, told the children and teachers alike to steer clear of junk food and sugar (although we can have it on special occasions - everything in moderation!) and told us how we can eat a balanced diet to help us to become as healthy as possible. The children listened extremely well to how they should be drinking at least 5-6 glasses of water a day and eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables. Another great piece of advice is to exercise every day doing something you love such as jumping, running, football, dancing - just keep moving! One thing that came through clearly was NO FIZZY DRINKS! Hopefully your child will be able to tell you why! To further their understanding, the children explored Mrs Makhoul's free iPad app, The Magic Meal, where they met different characters and played games, all good fun whilst learning the importance of healthy eating. Our photos show what fun the children had! A big thank you to Mrs Makhoul for teaching us all about a healthy diet.
