Last Monday we all enjoyed two inspiring sessions with Matthew Johnstone, best-selling author, illustrator and passionate mental health and wellbeing advocate on Mindfulness and how we can be more mindful in our everyday lives. Through the use of his own beautiful photographs and engaging artwork, he helped us to understand how being mindful can help us every day. He taught us some skills to learn how to slow down and appreciate what is around us, and asked us to take the time to notice something new every day. He then set us a challenge – for each child to take just one photograph of something around the school that captured their attention or that they had not noticed before – the idea being that we must take time from our busy lives to slow down and take more notice of our surroundings. After hours of looking through the hundreds of images, Matthew put the finalists’ entries together. See below for his selection. We were so proud of all of the year 3 entries, they were varied and interesting. Matthew chose the entry taken by Danny Byrne as the winner for Year 3 – well done Danny!! Matthew Johnstone has spoken all around the world including the World Health Organisation in Geneva, Google in New York, the Royal Society of Arts in London, he recently did a speaking and book tour of Iceland.
